Need More Bedroom Space – Think Up:  Benefits of Space Saving Bunk Beds

Are you looking for more space in a bedroom?  Do you have multiple children who need to share a bedroom?  Do you have a child who loves to run trains and track all over the bedroom floor?  Or, does your teen regularly have friends over to hang out.?  Then you could use a space saving bunk bed.

Bunk beds have been around for a long time.  There are basically two types - bunk beds and loft beds.   A bunk bed consists of two beds stacked one on top of the other and the beds can be twin or full size. On the other hand, a loft bed usually has a bed on the top bunk with a work or study area below.  It may have a desk or storage drawers built into the design.  The top bed of a loft may also be twin or full size.  Both types of beds use a ladder or steps to access the top bunk.  Most styles can be separated into single twin or full size beds if desired.

Bunk beds and loft beds can be made out of wood or metal.  Wood is durable and adds natural beauty to any room.   Wood bunk beds are usually more expensive and heavier than their metal counterparts.  Metal bunk and loft beds come in a variety of styles.  They are very affordable and easy to move around.  As long as you purchase from reliable manufacturers, bunk beds and loft beds should be safe and durable.

What safety considerations are there with bunk beds?  Every year many people are injured due to bunk bed accidents.  Often, these accidents occur because the beds are not well made or the beds were not being used properly.  The first and most important thing to remember about bunk bed safety is,  purchase good quality bunk beds from reliable manufacturers.  Do not buy the cheapest bunk bed out there.  Your child’s safety could depend on this factor and it should be your biggest motivator.  Make sure the bed meets the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) Safety Standards for bunk beds as well as the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) standards.  When you receive the bed, read all the manufacturers safety recommendations and enforce those with your children. Bunk beds are fun and made to be enjoyed by children but teach the kids how to enjoy them and still be safe.  Bunk beds were not meant to be playground equipment.  If used properly and made well, they will be safe.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a way to save space, add beauty to your home, tidy up your bedroom or just add a neat piece of furniture to your room, consider a bunk bed or loft bed.  With all the available options, there is a bed for everyone.
